Introduction to Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

This introductory two-session class will be taught by Barbara Gallagher on Ashford Rigid Heddle Looms with yarn from CeCe’s Wool Farm Store in Guilderland, NY. At the first session we will warp a loom together, and then each student will start weaving a scarf. Students will take the looms home to finish weaving during the following two weeks. At the second session, we will learn how to finish our scarves and remove them from the loom. The class fee of $90 includes instruction, 2 skeins of wool, pattern, and use of the loom. The class will be taught at Creative Corner Books in the Hobart Book Village.

Introduction to Sashiko Embroidery

Sashiko is a form of Japanese folk embroidery using the basic running stitch to create a patterned background. The geometric patterns include straight or curved lines of stitching arranged in a repeating pattern. The Japanese word Sashiko means "little stabs" and refers to the small stitches used in this form of needlework. Learn the techniques to create a coaster during class, and take home materials to make 3 more coasters at home. Class fee of $20 includes instruction and all materials for a set of 4 coasters.

Create a flower design on a wool background by needle felting. It's like painting with wool. Needle felting (also known as dry felting) uses special barbed needles that intermingle fibers from the top and bottom surfaces of your felting project, locking them together to form a dense matted surface. Needle felting can be used to create flat designs or three dimensional shapes. Jill Reed will teach us how to make a two dimensional flower design using wool roving and felt it onto a flat wool background. You can either frame your design or create a rustic wall hanging. You can choose your own colors to work with. No experience is required. Instruction and all materials supplied.

Proddy is an old-fashioned British variation of rug hooking, using shaped pieced os wool fabric lifted up with a wool prod. This technique is perfect for creating beautiful three dimensional blossoms.
